The Week Of

The Week Of....

It seems like I just posted about having a booth at the Apple Festival and now it's just 3 days away. I have been busy getting stuff finished and making sure I have every thing I need.

Pot holders, Dish clothes like your granny use to use, hats, kitchen towels with crocheted toppers. I have been working on earrings and I am liking them, no I don't wear earrings but I bet they'll look cute in your ear.

I will also have Apple themed items. Come out and see me I and visit my church's booth for some hamburgers and hot dogs, or just need wet your whistle. They will also have apple butter made the same way for 100 years. Apple Festival will begin 8 a.m. Friday morning ending Saturday evening at 9 p.m.

Sweetgrass baskets use to be called slave baskets until one day someone took a negative and turn it into a positive, so the name was changed to sweetgrass baskets. I also learned that the art of making sweetgrass baskets is passed down to the next generation just like crocheting. Sweetgrass baskets are almost identical in style to the shukublay baskets of Sierra Leone, where learning to coil baskets "so tightly they could hold water" was an important rite of passage in West African tribes like the Mende and the Temne. This basket-making tradition came to South Carolina in the 17th century by way of West African slaves who were brought to America to work on plantations. West Africa resembles South Carolina in both climate and landscape, and rice had long been cultivated there. In slaves, plantation owners gained not only free labor but also a wealth of knowledge and...
